Description:
This is a little tool to quickly create a growing tentacle and also offering very easy way to edit growing timing.

 
 

Installation:
Simply copy the downloaded Mel script to
C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\maya\2008\scripts\
source the script from Maya Script Editor and run it by typing zinTentacle and hit enter key
Compatible to Maya 7.x and above.

 
  Usage:


1) Create a nurbs curve, set start and end time. Pick a resolution in number of nurbs sphere. The longer in timeit takes to build the tentacle the higher resolution is recommended.
2) Choose if you need to have sharp end in the end and to have an ease out in animation curve.
3) With the nurbs curve selected, hit Pick a curve object button.
4) A window with prompt you of your selection and Build me a tentacle button is enabled.
5) Hit the Build me a tentacle button and the tentacle is built with animation. Scrub through the timeline and you should see the result.
6) It is very important that you do not delete or rename any objects as the naming convention would be needed for auto editing tool later.

7) Hit Load scene animLines to load.
8) You would see the start and end value would be updated according to the loaded tentacle animation.
9) Changing the value and hit enter key would instantly update the animation timeline.
10) You could build more than one tentacles in the scene, load them and edit the start and end time here.

Tips:
You are free to edit the tentacle nurbs sphere to create irregular shape, making the tentacle looks more disgusting if that's what you like :)
Also, you could animate the main nurbs curve that you used to build the tentacle to make it move as you see the tentacle is building. Check out the zinJointCurve tool to see how you could easily animate a nurbs curve.
